Session: Bridging the Gap … why being an ally matters

Tech as an industry is an amazing opportunity and should be open for anyone who wants to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, the statistics on participation from women and minorities reflect a gap in making tech accessible for everyone. Institutions in tech are creating programs and drafting measures to try to make a shift, like university efforts to diversify computer science programs or company Diversity and Inclusion efforts. This is encouraging, but the most powerful force for change is for those already in the community to become allies. The key to a tech culture change is you. It’s each one of us being an ally.
