Simply put, people don’t like change, even when they know it’s necessary. WordPress recently went through a big change in its content (post) editor. For 10+ years the post editor largely consisted of a single box for markup that left content creators guessing what their content would look like when published. It needed to be modernized with a new data structure; a more intuitive, block-based approach to managing content; and a new tech framework. We built a true, wysiwyg editor! As you can imagine, a change this large across 34% of the internet is not easy. In this talk we’ll explore the story of the editor rebuild and the lessons I learned co-leading the WordPress 5.0 release.
